  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Knowing a language means one can speak, be understood and understand others who know the language. Although I have taken three years of Spanish, I would not say that I definitively know Spanish. I would not feel comfortable going to Spain alone and trying to survive merely with the three years training that I received. I would inevitably make mistakes, conjugating verbs improperly or stringing nonsensical sentences together. Knowing a language means knowing the things that you aren?t taught. I could spend five more years in a Spanish class, learning all the rules and vocabulary, but I still would not feel I knew the language. Knowing the language means understanding the unspoken rules behind that language. It is in understanding what is possible and, conversely, what is impossible in a language that one can truly know that language.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Logically it follows then to ask; if this unspoken knowledge is not taught, how is it learned? Prior to the lecture on language competence I would have said, purely from an observational standpoint, that those rules of language are learned chiefly through imitation. A child hears what his or her parents say and mimics them. Through correction and over time, these rules are then conditioned into that child. When asked, however, how do you explain the fact that children do not make random mistakes, but rather predictable ones, this theory begins to break down. Monopsony and Taste-for-Discrimination Model

(1) Monopsony is an economic situation when there are a number of sellers but only one buyer (monopsonist) in the market. Monopsony can be considered as the model symmetrical to market monopoly, and at monopsonic market not the sellers but buyer can determine the price of the goods in the market. A monopsonist can regulate market price by varying the amount of goods he buys. That is why the price which monopsonist is ready to pay for the goods will be lower than it can be in any competitive market. The concept of Monopsony was introduced in 1933 by Joan Violet Robinson, a British economist and creator of the theory of imperfect competition. She conducted a series of researches on different economic issues, the results of which were publicized in her book The Economics of Imperfect Competition.   She also studied the dynamics of MC and MRP curves in the situation of monopsonic market and compared those with the dynamics of the corresponding curves in terms of competitive markets. (2) Taste-for-Discrimination model was created by an American economist Gary Becker, who is famous for his studying and interpreting economic concepts from sociological points of view. The model was introduced in the 1950s and described the behavior of employer, which is ready to have extra expenses in order to be associated with some group of the employees instead of another group. Originally, Becker made this assumptions referring to racial discrimination, but the model may be applied not only to racial determinant. Undoubtedly, such situation in the market can bring to lowering the wages of discriminated groups, though the productivity of all the groups will remain equal. Thus, discriminated employees will have lower utility. Correspondently, monetary profits of non-discriminatory companies will be higher than those of discriminatory companies.   In addition, it will affect economic equity, because the companies at the market will tend to segregate the groups of workers in long run period if the customers are ready to pay for the â€Å"taste†. Judaism The Religion Of The Jewish People - 826 Words

Eliza Snape Wednesday, September 3rd 2014. Judaism is the religion of the Jewish people. It is a monotheistic religion meaning that the Jews believe in one, all powerful God. Jewish people were among the first convicts and settlers to Australia. Over many years the Jewish population in Australia grew making Judaism a more popular and known practiced religion in Australia. Judaism is a minority religion making up for around 0.3% of the Australian population. In the 2011 census 97, 335 Australians identified as Jewish with 90% of these Australians living in Sydney and Melbourne. There are four main types of Judaism practiced in Australia and all around the world. Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Hasidic Judaism. All types of Judaism are welcomed, practiced and celebrated in Australian society however to this day about 70% of synagogues in Australia are recognized as Orthodox. Until the 1930s every synagogue in Australia was recognized as Orthodox and consequently the Jewish Orthodox community became better known. Orthodox Judaism has been said to be the most traditional expression of modern Judaism in today’s society. However they hold strongly to the literal meaning of the book of Genesis, the creation story and the words of the Torah and they portray this in their daily activities, celebrations and sacred times.
